Who we are

What is Operation Sunshine South West?

Operation Sunshine is a Christian charity that sends practical aid directly to people in parts of East Africa who are struggling against starvation, deprivation and disease, in conditions of desperate poverty. There are two centres of operation, one in Folkestone covering the South-East of England while we are the South West branch based in Tavistock, Devon. Each year Tavistock sends five or six 40-foot shipping containers filled with goods which have been donated; clothing, food, school furniture, educational materials, craft equipment, medical supplies and tools. These are for refugee camps, leper colonies, hospitals, orphanages, schools and remote villages throughout rural areas of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

We KNOW that our work makes a difference, because we know exactly where the containers are going. We know the people who will receive the containers and supervise the distribution of goods. Volunteers from Tavistock have visited many of the communities and projects we support (at their own expense) and we are in constant email communication with the projects we help.

Operation Sunshine is a completely voluntary organisation with no salaried staff and minimal overheads. We rely for our funding entirely on the generosity and support of individuals, churches, community groups and national organisations.
